Top 5 Kindergarten Teaching Ideas this Week {5-7}

Its that time again – I’m featuring my favorite kinder teaching ideas to use this week from last Thursday’s linky party. I hope you find something fantastic that you’d like to try doing or try teaching.

These are just the top 5 teaching ideas that I had time to highlight, so a huge thank you for those who took the time to link up their fabulous teaching ideas!

Top 5 Kindergarten Teaching Ideas this Week

1. Learning About Space – I have one kinder who is especially crazy about outer space. If it has to do with planets and the universe, he wants to know more. This is a great set of materials, examples of exploration activities and a space-themed game that you could easily bring into your classroom too. I would think these might go great in our non-fiction literacy center since I have a space themed set of non-fiction. {Free download}

5. Very Hungry Caterpillar Measuring – Here is a great way to include some measurement into your themed activities. If you love the Very Hungry Caterpillar, then you'll see how easy this could be to use laminated with linking cubes or to copy for each student. I'm wondering if these will also go great with my inchworm rulers {wink}? {Free download}

6. Art Portfolio - This paper bag can quickly become an art portfolio (or a way to store oversized writing/art masterpieces). This tutorial will teach you how to cut and fold a grocery bag and to secure it with tape. One of my favorite tips from this idea is to have parents help create them at a meet n' greet or for a volunteer to help with.

7. My Work Rocks Box - Now I have come across this idea before and even shared it as a classroom management tip on Teach Junkie. My kinders think using teacher supplies or special supplies is a fantastic idea, so why not capitalize on it and get the best quality work by incentivizing them? Create a special box and reward your hard working kinders.

8. The Great Outdoors - Here comes the time of year to get in as much writing practice as possible. As I reflect on this idea and the one above and the needs of my own kinders, I'm thinking I might use this outdoor fun writing prompt as a way to share the "my work rocks" box. If students can work on using punctuation, capitalization and spaces without my prompting...
{eeek feeling the report card pressure} then they can earn the special supplies. If I repeat this activity, then it just might begin to play the right incentive role in creating students who are attempting to check their work. {Free download}

Are you wondering what was the most popular {or most clicked on} idea from the party was? Well… it was Art Portfolio.

Thanks ladies. Your ideas are creative! You were all so awesome and you played first class by leaving comments for each other too {love that!} Feel free to grab my "I've been Highlighted" button since your tips and ideas were definitely worth the shout out.

You can view all of the ideas linked up HERE. If you have a blog, be sure to check in on Thursday when you can link up your favorite or most recent kindergarten teaching tip like a project you made, a lesson idea or a fun tip.
