monster numbers {tools to learn 0-10}

We just met as an entire district grade level to go over our new common core assessment packets and were discussing how much number sense and learning to write and utilize numbers 0-10 there is in just the first nine weeks of school. Is your pacing anything similar? Well, I wasn't sure how much I was going to use the monster numbers audio book that I created this summer, but my kinders are loving it so far and it is beginning to help me accomplish working towards mastery of these standards with my kinders.

It talks about the process of counting 1:1 all the way up to four as an example and then goes into well-known chants to practice forming the numerals correctly.

My kinders have begun to pick up on the chants quickly and I am including a set of the chants to go home with our parents at our parent night this week. Hopefully these will earn some at-home fridge space for a few weeks.

I am looking forward to growing into some of the other pieces of the monster numbers set. The audio book, mini student-book, puzzles, handwriting chant set and workmats (seen below) were fun to make and I love the idea of even using bingo-daubers like Fran @Kindergarten Crayons recommends for representing items in a ten frame. In this case, those daubers will create fantastic monsters.

I plan on growing into these with my small guided math groups and differentiating the type of work with numbers and number sense while being as interactive as I can. To start off, how about some playdough numeral formation and ten frame work mats that will have you enjoying monster numbers too?

It was always a goal to put this into video form to in order to give my students a way to practice following a visual. It works great if you break it up into parts to focus on just a couple numbers! Enjoy this free video!
